Iittala Aalto vase, 140 mm, light lilac

The Aalto vase by Iittala is a design classic that never goes out of style. Made in a rare size at 5.51 x 0 in (140 x mm, mm), the vase is crafted from lavender-colored glass.

Every lilac vase is unique in shape, detail, and color, making them true works of art and sought-after collector’s items. Designed by Alvar Aalto, the vases are mouth-blown with a traditional yet nowadays rarely used wooden mold at the Iittala glass factory in Finland, and each vase requires a total of thirty hours of craftsmanship from seven artisans.

The wooden mold gives the glass vase a fascinatingly organic look: the textured contours on its walls bear the imprints of the charred mold. What’s more, the mold actually becomes increasingly charred each time it is used, thus making each vase truly one-of-a-kind!
